Long tail cast on is one of the many methods to build your stitches on a needle to begin a knitted project. The name comes from the use of the long tail to make the stitches together with the working yarn. The length of the tail defines the number of stitches which can be cast on - the more stitches you need, the longer the tail will need to be. This method also creates two rows of stitches instead of one as in knit cast on.

Precision Long Tail Cast-on!
Not sure how much yarn to use for your long tail cast-on? Try this cast-on tip! Using a center pull ball, find both the inside and outside ends and connect them with a slip knot. Proceed with the long tail cast-on until you have the desired number of stitches (do not count the slip knot as a stitch). From this point, cut the outside strand and knit on! Do not knit the slip stitch, just slip it off when you come to it.
