There will always be long tail boat to rent, there is a fair chance that in September the sea have waves, especially on the west coast and to go in to a long tail can be very unsafe.

If you instead take a rent boat from Chalong/Rawaii area, the sea is calmer and you can hide in the back of the islands and if sea is calm you can go out to Prhom Thep cape, the south tip of Phuket , here you have stunning sunsets.

Please help me with your opinions (pros & cons) in regards of using a long tail boat (run by TripAdvisor's recommended Long Tail Boat service in Ao Nang . Have to book in advance with no refund but a subsitute back up plan option) vs. a speed boat charter (haven't found a reliable / recomended one yet) to Phi Phi...

You will see the long tail boats on the beach, especially the southern end. Prices start from about 1200 THB and that was to Freedom beach just around the corner. Great beach just make sure you get there and order your food early if you want to have lunch there!!

Long-tail boats parked at the jetty at the southern end of Patong Beach can take you there for between 1,100 to 1,500 baht for the round trip - and to be honest, they make up the price according to how you look. As it takes only 10 minutes to get to Freedom Beach this is a blatant rip-off, but it is the only way to get there for people not fit enough to reach the beach by road.

we dont really want to catch the ferry, we are doing the Maya bay camping, so need to de there by about 2 oclock, do any of these go from patong to phi phi, in april, thanks

We stay in Patong and catch a taxi to Rawai, from there we hire a long tail boat and ask them to take us to Coral Island.

They will want to take you to Bon Island which is closer.( We have not been to Bon Island).
