http://www.worldhistoryclass.com I was standing on the balcony of my hotel room in Ao nang, Thailand (close to Krabi). I saw this Long Tail Macaque that decided to stop in this open air restaurant for breakfast. BUT the resident cat was not going to allow the visitor to eat for free without a fight. Tourist attacked! Monkey Beach at Ko Phi Phi Don.

We were not allowed to exit the boat (presumably as this would incur an additional fee), but we were able to watch the monkeys come down and beg food from the mob of tourists. One girl (in the pink bikini) tried to put her face near a monkey, sitting on the kayak for a photo, and of course it swiped at her, another small monkey ran up and clawed at her too before running away. Much to the amusement of her friend.

On monkey island, tourists come to feed these wild monkeys. Historically, these macaques would typically live side by side with humans. This place is on the unethical side by having these wild animals depend on humans for food. The beach itself was very polluted, and these monkeys took whatever they wanted from you, including soft drinks.

Thailand: Monkey business! Moneymaking macaques thrown banquet for enticing tourists

Moneymaking monkeys from Lopburi were in for a treat on Sunday, as the local Monkey Banquet Festival got underway at the city’s Phra Prang Sam Yot shrine.

The annual festival, which takes over the town and sees the animals gorging on bananas and other fruits, is organised by locals as a way of rewarding the long-tail macaque monkeys who bring tourism to the area.
