Infanticide in Long tail Macaque

Infanticide is a common phenomenon in long-tailed macaques behavior. Males kills infants that are likely not their own offspring to reduce the interbirth period, since the female interbirth period will be reduced if they lost their nursing infants. the female estrus cycle will be faster than if they reared the infant completely. That way the male Macaque would increase its chances to sire offsprings after they take over a group (became an alpha male in a group).
